Throughout the month of May, I have been creating and sharing floral artwork each day. I decided to undertake this challenge to push myself to make time every day to create art and to learn more about sharing my work on social media.
This was the first time that I shared my art on social media platforms and I found it quite daunting, to begin with. Putting artwork out there for public scrutiny felt as personal as it might be to publish details from a private diary.
I am not a tech-savvy but decided that the best way to learn was to simply get stuck in and learn along the way.
I have found the challenge really enjoyable, it has been a fantastic opportunity to make art every day and to experiment with different methods and techniques. I have always found the process of creating art is extremely therapeutic, and the daily escape into art was beneficial for my general wellbeing. Some days I only had a short amount of time available but I was determined to complete the challenge. Being a bit of a perfectionist there were a few artworks over the month that I wasn’t 100% happy with, to my surprise some of these pieces received the most likes!
I have been pleasantly surprised by the response to my work on Instagram. I made sure to maintain realistic expectations, however, I have to admit that on occasion I found myself feeling disappointed if a piece that I was really pleased with did not get as many likes as others. I quickly realised though that it was silly to feel this way because my artworks were getting Likes every day and I was also gaining some new followers.
There have been so many positive lessons for me to take from this challenge, I am by no means a social media expert but I feel more confident now to share my art.
